Land and Survey Records in the Archives of the Board of Commissioners of Public Lands by Randy Bixby

Randy is the Land Records Archivist of the Board of Commissioners of Public Lands (BCPL), the oldest state agency in Wisconsin. The BCPL Archives holds the original survey maps and field notes for the entire state of Wisconsin, and records relating to land grants from the federal government to the State of Wisconsin, totaling 10 million acres. This presentation will provide background information on the original surveys of Wisconsin and an overview of federal and state land patents and their impact on the people of Wisconsin.

This presentation is jointly sponsored by the Dane County Area Genealogical Society and the Dane County Historical Society. It will be held in the LOWER LEVEL of the Lussier Center. Guests are welcome after 6:30, meeting/presentation starts promptly at 7:00.

Members are welcome to bring a homemade treat to share. DCHS will provide beverages.
